Abstract
Based on the multidimensional poverty approach, results showed that the rate of poor households tends to increase while the rate of the near-poor households tends to decrease. Considering each dimension of poverty separately, the researchers found that an overall rate of 34,26% of total surveyed households are in poverty considering at least 3 dimensions of poverty. In Dinh Hoa and Phu Luong province, those rates reached 35% and 42% respectively. In a total of 10 dimensions of poverty, 66,19% of the total households did not fulfilled the dimension of hygienic toilets. Multidimensional poverty was also greater among the ethnic minorities than the Kinh majority. The proportion of the male led families in multidimensional poverty was significantly lower than that of female led families. Qualification of household heads has a significant impact on poverty level of their families. The study also found three main factors affecting poverty status including: the lack of capital, the limited knowledge on investment and the shortage of production facilities. The study suggests that poverty reduction policies should target various categories households with same poverty levels to ensure the highest responsiveness and effectiveness.
