Abstract
This study assesses technical efficiency (TE) and identifies underlying determinants of TE among agricultural cooperatives in the southern communes of Thai Nguyen Province. Utilizing a two-stage analytical framework, the research integrates Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Tobit regression with a Stepwise Selection procedure. The findings reveal an average Constant Returns to Scale Technical Efficiency (CRSTE) of 0.817, indicating an 18.3% potential for input reduction while sustaining current output levels. Tobit regression results reveal eight key determinants, among which product promotion and e-commerce adoption exhibit the strongest positive effects on efficiency. In contrast, excessive production area and membership size are associated with lower efficiency, likely due to managerial cost pressures and traditional mindsets. The study offers policy implications for digital transformation and lean management to enhance the competitiveness of the local collective economic sector.
