Abstract
This study applies the Push-Pull-Mooring (PPM) model to analyze factors inhibiting the intention to use electronic cigarettes among university students in Hanoi. By examining push factors (e.g., awareness of health risks, high costs), pull factors (e.g., a positive healthy lifestyle), and mooring factors (e.g., personal beliefs, social norms, mental health), the study identifies key determinants that contribute to limiting the intention to use e-cigarettes. The study used a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods. A survey was conducted, collecting 450 valid responses. Data was processed and analyzed using SPSS 25 and Smart PLS 4. Findings indicate that the model explains 70,4% of the variance in usage intention. Among the identified factors, good mental health has the strongest negative impact on e-cigarette use, alongside pressure from family and friends – reflecting Vietnamese cultural characteristics, and financial barriers.
