THE DEVELOPMENT OF VIETNAM’S RETAIL INDUSTRY IN THE POST-COVID-19 PERIOD

Abstract
The study was conducted with the objective of analyzing the development of the retail industry in Vietnam in the post-COVID-19 period. The study shows an overview of the retail industry in Vietnam, based on theoretical foundations and the current situation of Vietnam’s retail industry in the period 2016-2019 and the post-Covid-19 period. The findings indicate that Vietnam’s retail industry was greatly affected by the Covid-19 with 41.7% of enterprises severely affected; 50% of enterprises moderately affected and 8.3% of enterprises having little or no significant impact. A series of retail stores has to close or return the premises, consumer buying behavior also changes towards buying through online retail channels. Although the retail industry in Vietnam is still the leading attractive market in the region it still faces many challenges.
