Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected the global economy. Using social capital (SC) to diversify agribusiness in order to attract more customers and improve the agricultural supply chain is a considerable topic. But the pandemic may have changed the characteristics of cognitive social capital (CSC) and relational social capital (RSC), which are the two main dimensions of social capital in general. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the role of these two types of capital on agribusiness diversification intention (ADI) that aims to drive agribusiness diversification behaviors to get more customers to overcome the crisis and accelerate toward sustainable development in agriculture. A mixed-methods approach and structural equation modeling (SEM) with a sample of 465 respondents are used. The results develop a scale to measure related concepts and show the relationship between CSC, RSC, and ADI with the mediating role of the behavioral goal and determinants of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Some practical implications are also suggested to drive agribusiness diversification to overcome difficult situations due to Covid-19 and reduce disruption risk of agricultural supply chain.
