Abstract
The traditional retail channel in Vietnam has been more dominant than modern one, but it has also revealed many weaknesses. This study collects data on the Vietnamese retail market, on the traditional retail channel in order to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional retail channel. At the same time, it derives lessons from Thailand’s practical experience in the retail channel development: ensuring fairness for both traditional and modern retail, and retaining national unique characteristics in the process of integrating into the world economy. Accordingly, the study proposes some solutions to improve traditional retail in Vietnam.
