Abstract
The performance effectiveness in banks, including the Vietnam bank for Agriculture and Rural development (Agribank), has been a consideration of many stakeholders such as investors, banks themselves, customers and regulatory agencies. So far, many studies have used technical indicators to assess the solvency or risk levels of banks. However, there has been no study applying the Malmquist Index method to compare the outputs and inputs to evaluate the performance of Agribank branches in Thai Nguyen city. This research built a set of panel data from the outputs and inputs in three years from 2017 to 2019 in three branches of Agribank in Thai Nguyen city and used the Malmquist Index method to assess the performance of those branches. The result showed that regarding three branches overall, they operated effectively in the research period. However, assessing each branch individually showed that only the 3rd branch’s performance was effective, while the others were not. The reason is that those branches were no longer effective in technological application. This study indicates that in order to achieve fruitful performance, all branches should apply modern technology to increase revenues and reduce costs.
