Abstract
This study aims to identify the factors influencing individuals’ intention to use cashless payments for public transportation in the context of urban digital transformation. Based on the theoretical foundations of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), the authors propose a model comprising nine hypotheses related to performance expectancy, subjective norms, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitude, trust, perceived security, and perceived risk. Data from a survey of 400 residents were analyzed by SmartPLS 3.0. The results indicate that trust, subjective norms, and attitude are the strongest predictors of the intention to use cashless payments, while perceived risk has a negative effect. Moreover, perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness indirectly influence behavioral intention through attitude, demonstrating the mediating role of attitude in shaping behavioral intention. The study proposes three main policy implications: (1) strengthening trust and system security; (2) leveraging social influence and positive user attitudes; and (3) optimizing user experience through friendly interface design. The findings provide empirical evidence supporting technology-related behavioral models and offer policy insights to promote cashless payments in public transportation in Ho Chi Minh City.
