Abstract
The Northeast region of Vietnam is an area with enormous resources for economic development. However, apart from the advantages, the region has various disadvantages such as geographic location, underdeveloped transportation system in some provinces, and the subjective factors of management agencies including inefficient business management policies and weak investment attraction. While some localities have overcome difficulties and made good use of local advantages to improve their competitiveness, such as Quang Ninh, Lao Cai and Thai Nguyen, other provinces have not yet benefited from the advantages for development such as Lang Son, Ha Giang, Bac Kan, and Cao Bang. In recent years, The Government has made great efforts to strengthen regional links throughout the country in socio-economic development, but the results achieved are not very fruitful. The Northeast region is not an exception with many limitations; especially this is one of the most disadvantaged communities of the country. Therefore, it is of great importance to find out the current situation, causes and to propose measures for investment attraction and economic development in the context of international integration.
Keywords: The North East, investment attraction, region linkage, economic development.
