Abstract
This study clarifies the role of OEKO-TEX certification in enhancing the effectiveness of raw and auxiliary material control within Vietnam’s textile and garment supply chains. Based on a survey of 622 enterprises and production facilities, the findings indicate that OEKO-TEX is not only a “passport” to meet international market requirements but also an effective governance tool that enables firms to strictly control input quality, reduce chemical-related risks, and limit non-compliant materials from the point of warehouse entry. The certification contributes to improving transparency, traceability, and compliance with ecological standards across the entire supply chain, from upstream suppliers to garment manufacturing, thereby strengthening inventory management, quality inspection, and coordination with partners. The study further confirms the mediating role of internal management capabilities in optimizing the impact of OEKO-TEX on material control performance, suggesting that firms need to invest in human resource training and quality-control technologies. Overall, OEKO-TEX certification not only supports enterprises in enhancing their competitiveness, but also promotes the transformation of Vietnam’s textile and garment supply chain towards greater sustainability and alignment with international standards.
