Abstract
In recent years, tourism in Hoa Binh province has developed rapidly, with many forms attracting an increasing number of visitors. However, ethnic minority households in this locality – despite possessing many cultural potentials and natural resources – still face many challenges in terms of livelihoods, unstable incomes, and limited economic development opportunities. Therefore, it is necessary to study the tourism-based livelihoods of ethnic minority households in Hoa Binh province to find ways to improve their lives and develop sustainably for the community. The objective of the study is to assess the impact of tourism activities on the livelihoods of ethnic minority households and propose solutions to improve the effectiveness of tourism-based livelihoods. The study was conducted using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods based on the sustainable livelihoods framework. Data were collected from 242 ethnic minority households in Hoa Binh province, all of whom have been involved in tourism activities such as providing accommodation, tour guides, selling handicrafts, and organizing ecotourism activities. The results of the study show that participation in tourism activities has a positive impact on the livelihoods of ethnic minority households through increased income, improved infrastructure, and community cohesion. The study also points out difficulties such as lack of capital, skills, and fierce competition and offers practical solutions to improve livelihoods from tourism in a sustainable way.
