Abstract
The study focuses on the group of tea growers representing the western communes of Thai Nguyen city, namely Tan Cuong, Phuc Xuan, and Phuc Triu. The study uses the participatory rapid assessment survey for data collection, with descriptive statistical analysis, statistical division and comparative method to clarify the research objectives. The results show that the cost of materials for 1 hectare of tea business is VND 37,350,000, equivalent to 62.4% of the total cost. The factors that most affect the sustainable development of tea plants are varieties and soil conditions (95.6%), followed by climatic factors, scientific and technical progress, Markets, etc. Localities also develop towards sustainable social and environmental criteria and apply technical advances to tea production such as: designing tea hills into 3 floors according to contour lines, applying new methods to cut tea to change the production cycle of tea. The use of chemical groups tends to decrease gradually compared to previous years (accounting for about 30-40%), the rest belonging to the group of growth regulators, herbal medicines, and drugs of biological origin tends to increase gradually, the percentage of households using safe pesticides as recommended is quite high (over 85%). In the coming time, the locality also has specific solutions to develop raw material areas, advance science and technology, management and quality of labor to ensure the development of tea in a sustainable way.
