IMPACT OF SUBSIDY AND PENSION ON LABOR SUPPLY OF ELDERLY PEOPLE IN RURAL VIETNAM

Abstract
This study uses the Propensity score matching model (PSM), with data from the national survey on the Vietnam household living standard survey over the years 2016 and 2018, to assess the effects of pensions or subsidies on the labor supply of the elderly people in rural Vietnam. The results confirm that the effect of the current pension or subsidy on the labor supply of the elderly people in rural areas is weak, it only reduces the average working hour per week. From the results of this study, it also provides recommendations and policy implications for managers, policy makers from central to local government levels in designing subsidy policies, pensions and jobs for the elderly people in rural areas of Vietnam today to ensure the promotion of the value of the elderly in working to find more income, reducing the burden of the elderly people for the family and society, strengthening physical and mental health helps the elderly to always live a happy and useful life, in the context of rapidly aging population.
