Employee motivation in state-owned corporations of Viet Nam: Issues to be handled

Tác giả: Phan Minh Đức; Số trang: 8

Abstract

For a fruitful restructuring of state-owned corporations in Vietnam, it is of great importance to concentrate on human resources activities, especially the employee motivation. This paper used the data which were compiled from the actual business operational circumstances of 10 Vietnamese state-owned corporations to elaborate their advantages and disadvantages in their employee motivating scheme in accordance to the A. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, which was proposed in 1943. The proposed solutions for remaining issues focus on seeking possible ways to raise the employees’ income, establishing a safe working environment in compliance with international standards, building a performance-based appraisal mechanism, maintaining a good corporate culture and a transparent human resources management. These are useful policy recommendations for government agencies and for internal governance of Vietnam state-owned corporations.
