Abstract
The study examines economic efficiency of Sugar Apple farms in Chi Lang district, Lang Son province and the impact of influential factors on the efficiency of the farms. The data are collected from the face-to-face interview of 100 Sugar Apple farm owners in the study area. The cost – benefit analysis method is used to examine the efficiency. In addition, the research uses Tobit regression method with nine models to examine the impact of influential factors on the efficiency of the farms. The results show that capital efficiency of groups 2 (represents farms located in Mai Sao commnue) and 4 (represents farms located in Quang Lang commnue) is higher than that of group 1 (represents farms located in Dong Mo commnue) and 3 (represents farms located in Chi Lang commnue). Land efficiency (per hectare) and labour efficiency (per labour expenditure) of groups 3 and 4 is higher than that of groups 1 and 2. Results generated from Tobit regressions show that the impact of yield in models 1, 2, and 3 is significant at one per cent level. In models 3, 4, and 5, the impact of farm size, yield and intermediate cost is significant at one per cent level.
