In order to provide more comprehensive views, the main objective of this research is to analyze and assess challenges in economic growth and structural change through employed the vector method and decomposing growth sources. Results indicate that despite the achievement of economic growth, there is a slowdown trend in the regional economic growth rate in recent years. It is noted that while the income per capita of this region still lies in lower mid-income categories, the slowdown trend in economic growth is a signal of a middle-income trap. The reasons might have resulted from a slowdown trend in increasing labour productivity and employment rates. Hence, the study recommends that improving the application of advanced science and technology in agriculture, forestry and fisheries to shift structural productions from products with low productivity and value to goods with higher value and productivity industries.
