Abstract
Vietnam is among the countries most severely affected by climate change, experiencing an increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events such as heatwaves, droughts, salinity intrusion, heavy rainfall–induced flooding, landslides, and severe storms. In the context of Vietnam’s commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, fostering public participation and consensus around emission-reduction actions is critically important. Based on a quantitative survey of 419 valid observations collected in Vietnam, this study develops an integrated behavioral model comprising green self-identity, social media engagement, climate impact beliefs, self-efficacy, adaptation intention, and adaptation behavior. The analytical procedure is conducted in two stages: (i) assessment of scale reliability and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) using SPSS, and (ii) testing of the structural model using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS. The results indicate that green self-identity and social media engagement exert positive and statistically significant effects on self-efficacy, which in turn promotes adaptation intention and adaptation behavior. In contrast, climate impact beliefs do not directly translate into perceived action capacity. These findings suggest that risk awareness alone is insufficient to motivate climate-related action unless it is supported by individuals’ confidence in their ability to respond effectively.
