Abstract
Recently, community based tourism (CBT) has been gradually becoming a new potential development trend in rural areas where there is a richness in natural resources and a uniqueness in cultural resources. In mountainous areas, with the landscape of majestic mountains and special cultural heritage of the identity of 54 ethnic groups, many CBT models have been developed. They have clearly positive impacts on creating jobs and increasing incomes for the local people, contributing to environmental protection and conservation; preserving the cultural and historical heritage of the locality. This article uses meta analysis to highlight the concept and the role of CBT; to evaluate the experience of the CBT models; thereby proposes some valuable solutions to sustainable CBT in rural mountainous areas of our country.
