Abstract
This study evaluates the operational efficiency of Vietnamese commercial banks during the period 2010-2023 using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). DEA was chosen as the primary analytical tool due to its ability to assess the relative efficiency of decision-making units (DMUs), in this case, banks, without requiring specific production function information. The results show that the average operational efficiency of Vietnamese commercial banks is relatively high, although there are significant differences among banks. Some banks achieve optimal efficiency, while others operate below the average. The study also indicates that the size of the charter capital is not the sole determinant of bank performance. In addition to static efficiency assessment, the Malmquist productivity index is used to measure changes in total factor productivity (TFP) of banks during the study period. The results reveal that the TFP of banks fluctuates over time and is influenced by multiple factors.
